Congratulations Ben on his King’s Scout Award

Date: 18th Feb 2026 Author: Kate Rathbone

Congratulations to Ben Waite on the award of his King’s Scout Award. This is the highest achievement that our Explorers and Scout Network can earn, and we are incredibly proud of Ben.

Ben is presented with his King's Scout Award by County Lead Volunteer, Paul Wakeley

The award presentation was eagerly watched by Walsh pack cubs and the leaders that have supported Ben throughout his scouting journey. Ben joined the group as a beaver, been through cubs, scouts, young leader and is now a Cub Leader with Walsh (Thursday) Cub pack.  He now hopes that this award will inspire others to challenge themselves and enjoy similar amazing experiences that Scouting can offer.

Ben spoke about some of the skills that he has learnt and the fantastic experiences that working towards this award has enabled. His favourite part, and also biggest challenge was a 2 week yachting expedition aboard the Ocean Scout. This was a completely new experience for Ben, so he quickly had to find his sea legs and learn the ropes, working as part of the 8-person crew to sail the North Sea, from Ramsgate to Ipswich. He has credited the expedition with giving him the confidence and openness to try new experiences.

Ben was honoured to be selected to represent Scouting in the West Midlands at the King’s Coronation, volunteering in Royal Parks to support the public attendees and sharing the day with Scouts from across the country.

Ben has enjoyed being part of the Warwickshire County Male Voices Choir, learning a new skill as part of the award.

In 2025, Ben attended the 16th World Scout Moot in Portugal, joining 7,500 scouts from around the world for a week of cultural exchange and adventure.

The certificate, signed by the Chief Scout, Dwayne Fields, reads:

“Congratulations on earning your King’s Scout Award. This is the highest achievement in Scouts and you should be incredibly proud of yourself. The skills you’ve gained and the kindness and commitment you’ve shown will prepare you well for the challenges ahead. I hope you continue your journey in the movement, and inspire others, but for now, take a moment to celebrate with the friends you’ve made along the way. You’re one of our very best.”

Congratulations Ben, we couldn’t be prouder! From all at 1st Nuneaton.
