Chewie Gets 30 Years!…

Date: 16th Jan 2023 Author: Scout Websites

Mike Bucknall, our Friday Cubs (Somers) pack Cub leader, was this week presented with his 30 year long service award by Nuneaton Scouts District Commissioner, Steven Haynes.

Shocked District Commissioner, Steve, had to confess that he is not 30 yet, but then also went on to thank Mike for his huge contribution to Scouting and the young people of Nuneaton.

Mike, a keen astronomer and archer, first joined as a Scout back in the early 1980’s and then continued as a Venture Scout before becoming a Cub Leader with Somers pack.

Camera shy Mike was a little stuck for words, but he did agree to a very rare photo opportunity before getting back to work on the Scientist badge with some of his Cubs.

On behalf of all the hundreds of young people he has helped over the last 30 years, we’d like to say a massive THANK YOU to Mike and we all look forward to the next 30 years.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
